Grand Gin Rummy: Fun Card Game App Reviews

Needs Accountability Statistics

Update: I can no longer reasonably give this app the benefit of the doubt. I have changed my rating to one star, and I am convinced that the most probable explanation for the bizarre, odds-defying behavior of the app is that the game becomes rigged after playing for a period of time without purchasing chips. I don’t think it’s merely a coincidence that so many negative reviewers are describing the exact same experience: playing successfully and advancing steadily up the ranks for one season, only to hit a noticeable, unbreakable losing streak that wipes out all of our chips. It’s highly improbable that we’re all getting so much worse at this game the longer we play it, despite being stuck at a much lower rank with lower match-ups. Being constantly beat by opponents always getting lucky, quick knocks has just come to feel too blatant for me to enjoy this game. Original: I’ve noticed a problem that other reviews seem to be having as well: after playing successfully for a period of time, I am now stuck in a rut in which I cannot win a single game. Literally not one win, aside from when an opponent quit mid-game. After advancing steadily through rank six before the season reset, I now can no longer crack rank twelve. I find it hard not to notice such an abrupt change in my win rate while playing. Furthermore, it seems that my opponents are now consistently winning in exceedingly lucky ways—frequently knocking very early without having to draw from the discard pile. Assuming the game is not in fact rigged, I wish the developers would add more statistics that measured your card draws against your opponents’ card draws, the way some other apps do. They could include something like a ‘Luck Index’ comparison at the end of a match, which might be something like the total number of cards picked up before knocking (the lower the luckier) added to the number of cards drawn off the discard pile (the lower the luckier). It wouldn’t affect the outcome of the match of course, it’d just be interesting to be able to see. Since the nature of the game itself is based so much on random draws, I think some attempt to measure this would help give people assurance that the app is being fair.

Cheating algorithm

Yeah, after you get to a certain level if you dont buy chips the cards get stacked against you.

Still unfair.

Ive been playing this game since the very beginning. The latest update took care of some big problems with game play. But there are still some things that I think would make it be more enjoyable: let us collect the whole pot if we win. Why are you only collecting $300 when each player pays $200 to join? Give the winner all $400 coins.... Let us play friends. Either thru Facebook or Game Center.... Stop rearranging my cards for me!! It drives me nuts to have a set and then it rearranges everything if I choose another card that could work in 2sets. Give me the option to change or leave it alone. That is very frustrating! I played 6 games tonight- 5 of those game were lost after making only ONE move each time. If it happened every once in a while, fine. But it literally happened 5 times in a row with 5 different opponents.

Grand Gin Rummy

Great game to most fun I have ever had playing Gin Rummy. Just some small issue. I agree with Elizabossy. I would like to chose my sets and change when I chose to not as I pick up new card. Whats with not receiving the full pot? All in all still a great game. Thanks for the best Gin game ever.

Good fun

Great game, very enjoyable. I would love to see a chat function or a friend function so you could keep in touch with other players.

Grand

This game is a money pit, and a real rip off.

Payout unfair

So, for every game I lose, I have to win two just to break even? Crazy. If I put up 200 chips and win, I should get 400 chips. And the play is so obviously slanted when an opponent consistently knocks (or Gins!) after 5 or fewer turns. I know if I am going to have a winning day based on the first game. Do not understand how game decides whose deal it is and do not care for the way the computer rearranges my hand. Once my chips are gone, app will be deleted. That shouldnt take long.

Slow and UNFAIR!

I like the game but opponents are too slow! Also sometimes you only get 2 hands per game. Should make it 300 instead of 100. Knocking should only entitle you to deadwood points. ELIZABOSSY is absolutely correct! 1/2 the time I get only ONE draw and the other person knocks!! Deadwood ONLY!! 2 hands and game over over and over!! And QUIT allowing people to put up their ugly photos. The charm is the icon. Dont make me look at dumb pictures and ugly kids.

Surprised it doesnt cost chips to write a review

The game is fun but you eventually will be like everybody else and run out of chips. I dont understand if both people play t in 200 chips why does it only pay out 300 instead of 400. Where does the rest go? Dont like not playing friends and family. Just stupid ... Better off finding another rummy game where you can actually play and not have to wait for your chip count to tally back up.

WORST of the worst....

Have fun the first few hands because before long you wont be able to win a thing. This game is the most blatantly rigged game I have ever played. Unless you keep ponying up for more coins your deals will turn sour faster than a glass of milk left in the hot afternoon sun. The other despicable aspect of this app is that it implies that you can invite and play with your Facebook friends when in reality you cannot ever play with or choose your partner in any way as the app just selects opponents randomly. Oh, but it will tempt you with 500 coins to invite those friends anyway, who will probably end up hating you in the long run for introducing them to this sad excuse for an app. The sad thing is this game has one of the cleanest and well designed interfaces out there and really would have potential if it werent for the "Robbery in progress" every time you play. As for me and my peeps we all uninstalled it today and recommend that you avoid it altogether.... Youve been warned...

DO NOT PLAY!!!! 0 STARS!!!

I dont usually write reviews, but I had to share this. I watched as the other player took the 8 of spades. The card I needed to make a suit. I waited to see if they would discard it, and they never did. To draws later, they knocked and the 8 of spades was nowhere in their hand. I am deleting immediately, I have never seen a game cheat like this before. UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Shame

Its a shame such a great game is unplayable after you run out of chips. I could win 10 games in a row, then lose two and be bankrupt. Other than that, its a beautiful game that plays well. Has the potential to be the best gin app Ive played.

I like it

Gameplay is a bit slow at times, but overall this is a really well done gin rummy game with plenty of live opponents and the level system seems fair.

Love the theme

I agree it isnt always fair in the game but some times you just get a sucky hand, even playing in person. Its still fun!

Fast and fun

Great little game. Fast and no problems.

Money hungry game

Rigged. Money hungry game.

Its one thing to have actual good or bad luck. Its another thing to have good or bad luck because a game is so ridiculously rigged.

Fun Game

The game is quite great... No problems at all.

Fun game

Good gameplay, need more in game chat features.

Good and bad

Beautiful graphics and great game play. There should be more ways to earn chips to play especially for new players. Once you run out the only option is to spend real money or wait for a small daily allowance that will buy you maybe one game. Also needs more in game chat options.
